About oily and combination skin type
Recently, I’ve dedicated my attention mostly to dry and dehydrated skin, but I haven’t forgotten about those who aren’t in this “category” and have in contrary, combination or oily skin.
If you still use conventional products for combination/oily skin, you will find out they are mostly based on alcohol and “synthetic plant extracts” which dehydrate the skin and consequently you end up in a vicious circle. However, this is not a long term solution. Even though the skin becomes temporarily mattified on the surface after using those products, we haven’t resolved the problem with dehydrating the skin with so harsh ingredients.
Although the skin is oily, it doesn’t mean that it has enough hydration.
This type of skin produces lots of oils, this is why it’s greasy, but it doesn’t produce enough water. Because of this imbalance between “water” and “oils”, the skin is imbalanced (and called combination). And so it needs to balance its natural moisture and oils and most of all start to regenerate itself. If we start to take away the oils from the surface, we haven’t resolved the core problem, which is gaining balance through self-regeneration. We have to start understanding the fact that our body is a living system who can heal itself and thus we have to treat it gently, which is nowadays more rare than not.
The key is to use very light products with natural antibacterial properties and also with some hydrating ingredients to rebalance the skin again.
A few months ago I had the opportunity to try Living nature’s Balancing gel and now after a while I have to emphasize that is one of the best products for combination skin that I’ve encountered! I was really impressed about this gel. Although is a version for night and I don’t have combination skin, I have tried it on myself as well. (Yes, I’m to curious to try all beauty goodies 🙂 To get better results I’ve tested it also on some other women who have combination skin. The results were very satisfying! They told me the skin is soft, hydrated and silky, without being shiny. And my dry skin hasn’t suffer at all, even though this gel is not suitable for it, somehow it hasn’t felt unpleasant or drying.
This product is so gentle, that it won’t dehydrate the skin harshly with an artificial matte effect. Instead, it leaves the skin naturally soft and soothed. The best is to use it during the night, even though I found that is ok to use it even during the day, if needed. Its texture is like a liquid, non-sticky gel. It has a very light, liquid consistency and when applied to the skin, it disappears quickly in a very light layer of non-shiny moisture on the skin. This is the best way, I can describe it. I like that in the formulation are also included some natural antibacterial ingredients like: Manuka honey and ginger root extract. While the Harakeke Flax gel provides hydration to the skin. The gel is packed in a 50ml package.
Another observation: even though is a night gel, I was curious to try how it works under make-up, because it is so light in consistency. For combination skin it’s a very good make-up base, because it gives a layer of “protection” to the skin, without creating many heavy layers underneath the foundation.

January 27, 2014 at 1:44 pm (10 years ago)Hello! I have checked your blog and saw about the topic. Well, you might not be ready for this information yet, but I will share it with you nevertheless, maybe you will find it useful later in the future. First, and I tell you from my own experience and from the heart, there is nothing outside that will really help you remove the effect (=acne). The cosmetic is ok, it helps us to care for our skin, but just on the OUTSIDE. The only cause is INSIDE and that is what you have to treat. (With acne usually it’s a bad self-image, which might be inherited,…). And the stress is also something that makes us feel bad. Although we cannot see it, it exists. So, it’s our inside (our emotional wellbeing) that has to be treated. When it comes to this I’m a total supporter of natural things. Apart being a makeup artist, I’m also a Bach flower practitioner and from experience I saw immense reliefs when you start treating yourself from inside out. So, my only advice is to start treating yourself inside (perhaps look for a good Bach flower practitioner), pay attention to food and later after these changes you will start to see what’s your real/true skin type. (I also recommend you to read Louise Hay books). It will be a fresh start and most of all focus to solutions and self-acceptance.
Wish you all the best!
