Und Gretel makeup from Berlin

und gretel makeup

Recently I’ve tested quite a lot of natural brands from Germany. Und Gretel makeup has been on my list since a long time and I use it now for quite a while, so it was really time to write a review, because it deserves a big like. You will soon see also the products in action in the upcoming video tutorial. So stay tuned!

Und Gretel Lieth liquid foundation

On the green beauty market I am always interested the most to try foundations and concealers and then it comes the rest. So I will start with Und Gretel Lieth foundation. There are 5 shades and I have tried Porcelain Beige which is a light shade with neutral to cool undertones. I can’t stress enough how much I love the finish of this foundation; light, it spreads quickly and evenly, it leaves a nice radiant, healthy glow without any greasy shine. I’d call it semi-matte. It has a medium coverage and I find the technology of all the products extremely innovative, especially because we are talking about natural cosmetics. It can be compared to high end conventional foundations. The best is that it looks even better because it doesn’t leave that “plastic” effect. The skin is even, smooth, radiant, covered and protected. The formulation consists of natural oils that give moisture to the skin, like avocado, sunflower and rosehip oil, plus clary sage and camomile extracts to soothe and calm the skin. It has a delicate (almost no) scent. Und Gretel Lieth foundation is packed in a 30ml glass bottle with a pump. All Und Gretel products are packed in beautiful colourful packages. Really love the graphic design too! My overall impression is that this is one of my favourite all-around liquid foundations.

Und Gretel Tunkal concealer

I was very curious about this product as well. Und Gretel Tunkal concealer comes in 3 shades; I have tested the medium one n.2 called Light beige which is a light cool rose shade (lighter than the reviewed foundation). The concealer is packed in a pen version and is very handy to use. It works very well when applied over the foundation and set with powder (btw I’m very curious about their setting powder too!). Since I have quite dark under eye circles this shade is a little bit too light for me. Although I mix shades together, my only wish would be to add at least 2 shades more for the concealer and for the foundation too. Will be patient waiting what the future will bring 🙂 The concealer is based on the same ingredients as the foundation so it really nourishes the skin while you wear it. I have found after a month really weird that it has a certain smell (not harsh or rancid; yes my nose is really tough!). Weird because it was almost with no scent (and the foundation is ok with the scent) and because it’s not an old product neither.

Und Gretel Sunne lifting modellage powder

und Gretel Sunne lifting modellage powder review

I find this product simply amazing, not to speak how beautiful it looks in this package! Additionally there are 2 brushes inside, each for a color. I have chosen the shade 2 again which is for medium skin tones. The shades are designed very subtly here and are amazing to work with. This modellage powder is meant for contouring (the dark shade) and to add a touch of natural flush to the cheeks (the lighter color). I find the light shade great to add a subtle touch of color, but I don’t use it as a highlighter because it’s too dark and coloured for this purpose. The powder is miles so finely that you won’t ever get a cake effect. It’ll be rather subtle and natural looking. I can compare this product to high-end cosmetic brands too! Huge like again 🙂

Und Gretel Sprusse eyebrow pencil

Eyebrow pencils are another make-up product that I always look for to test first, since many of them can be too soft or too greasy. I always look for a precise and medium (not too soft nor too hard) pencil for shaping the brows. I have chosen the shade n.1 called dark brown among 3 shades. As you can see from the swatch below it’s a dark neutral brown. The pencil has the brush to comb the brows incorporated. Overall I find this pencil among the best ones too. It is ultra precise and a little goes a long way.

At this point I can say that I plan to try even other products from this brand. I am enchanted by the overall quality of performance and their design is absolutely fantastic too! Stay tuned to see these products in motion in my new video tutorial!

Any thoughts about this brand? Who uses it already?

Inika natural perfection concealer

inika mineral make-up

It’s been a long time since I wanted to try Inika concealer. I was especially curious how it works for covering under-eye dark circles. I have been using it for a few weeks now and I have some positive comments and even some critics about it.

Inika natural perfection concealer is packed in a 15g plastic tube which is very handy and even hygienic. The concealer comes in 2 shades: Light for fair skin and Medium for slightly darker skin tones (but not for dark skin – a shade that I also miss). I am using the light shade and it suits very well my ivory skin tone. The texture of the concealer is quite liquid and you have to shake the tube very well before using it. I have noticed that the texture depends also on the temperature. In hot summer days this concealer was a little bit too liquid, but when it was colder the texture changed and became more creamy, but still quite liquid. In general, its texture is great for covering under-eye circles because of the delicate skin around the eyes. When applied on really dark circles this concealer does cover them quite good. But for the dark under-eye circles the problem is not the coverage of the concealer, but its color. I’d really love to see in their range a few shades even in peachy and even yellow tones for neutralizing dark-circles! Just a light color in skin tone shades will never cover good enough very dark circles or any other discolorations. They have to be neutralized with the appropriate color. The liquid texture of the concealer it’s even not so good in covering red spots, if they are very visible. However, the concealer does a good job if applied on top of the liquid foundation to additionally cover some imperfections. But it has to be set with setting powder especially on oily skin.  You can apply this concealer with your fingers or with using a concealer brush. The ingredients are very good as you can see it from the list below. Inika mineral makeup is suitable even for vegans, is not tested on animals and is OFC certified.

In conclusion, I think that this concealer is suitable for those women who don’t need/use foundation and don’t have bigger discolorations or imperfections. In short, for those who opt for a minimal natural look. They can apply it gently with fingers on areas where needed and set lightly with powder. The light concealer is also very good if used as a highlighter for “lifting” some areas of the face.

I understand that creating a good concealer is still a challenge in the green beauty industry, so I hope that we will soon have some improved concealer formulations with light texture and good coverage for any discolorations!

How to: Correct dark circles under the eyes

dark under eye circles

A few days ago I was talking with a girl who complained about her dark circles and was seeking advice how to fix the problem. As dark circles around the eyes are also my problem since a long time, I decided to dedicate them this post:)
I researched a lot concerning this topic and found out that instant solutions with creams doesn’t work because the problem has its roots somewhere else, deeper, in our emotive state that affect our organs. When our emotions are in balance, the whole body is in balance too and thus working properly.
According to Chinese medicine dark circles becomes visible due to poor kidney function. The whole under eye area is related to kidneys, liver and stomach.  Dr. Mo from the Acupuncture school online says:

“Dark circles are a sign of imbalances in the body or the psyche. As the saying goes, the eyes are “the windows of the soul” and as such mirror our physical health. A person’s eyes hide many secrets. Chinese medicine practitioners say that the eyes are related primarily to the energy of the liver (“liver manifests itself in the eye”). A poor functioning of the liver causes pain or tingling in the eyes. When the liver is forced to make great efforts, the eyes redden, become surrounded by dark circles, or become overly sensitive to light. Emotions, stress, suffering and advanced age have a great impact on the proper functioning of the liver and thus may negatively impact the aspect, and more importantly, the proper functioning of the eyes.”

Moreover, when the skin is not moisturized enough, dark circles tend to show more. The skin under the eyes is extremely thin and sensitive and so it has to be treated gently. If possible massage the around the eye area with gentle circular motions. You will improve the blood circulation and increase the lymph flow. Avoid chemical creams on the area around the eyes, since that area is extremely sensitive. I suggest to use organic creams, with antioxidants and coffee extract like 100%pure organic coffee bean caffeine eye cream. Most of all, drink a lot of pure water  and provide hydration to your body, so that it will eliminate quickly the toxins from your body.

How to cover dark circles?

After applying the under-eye cream, gently massage the area around the eyes. Then you need to cover the dark circles. However, make-up won’t fix the problem, which has to be cured on a deeper level. But it will just visually brighten and enhance our sight. Choosing a corrector in shades of our skin won’t cover dark, usually bluish/brown/violet circles. They have to be neutralized with an opposite color corrector. Try to choose a corrector in peach or salmon tones (orange based) which is the opposite color of blue. If your dark circles are more violet, conceal them with a yellow concealer. This way you will neutralize the dark circles that will “disappear”. If needed, you can then continue with applying your liquid foundation. Tap gently a small amount of concealer with a soft synthetic brush and blend well. When applying put the concealer exactly on the dark area and not around. Because of the thin skin, I suggest to use liquid or creamy and hydrating concealers, with a light texture. Some of them comes in a pen form, with a brush incorporated, which is very handy.

Green makeup tip If you have time and will, there is the old but effective meted of putting cold slices of raw potato or cucumber on the closed eyes for 15 min. Tired eyes will be soothed and circulation will be enhanced. Another quick remedy is putting a teaspoon in the freezer and then put it under the eyes.
