How to: Apply mineral makeup – part 2

How to choose the right mineral makeup brush

mineral-makeup-brushes

In this second part I will present you how to choose the right mineral makeup brush. On the market there are many different mineral makeup brands that offer a variety of makeup brushes. If you are attached to one brand of minerals that offer also brushes, you can obviously purchase brushes from them. This is not necessarily the best option. I’d suggest you to check and invest in good quality brushes that will last a long time, if you will properly take care of them. Most often mineral makeup brushes are cruelty free. That means they are made with synthetic fibers. Not every brand of minerals offer synthetic brushes, so take a look to the detailed description if you want to purchase cruelty free brushes.

The difference between mineral and liquid foundation application

– Minerals come in form of powders

– Mineral makeup is about adding layers of different powders (primer, color corrector, foundation, finishing powder, bronzer)

– The key is to apply minerals with a light hand and to blend well

– Using circular motion while applying mineral powders

Because of  these reasons mineral brushes have a high density of fibers, they are firmer and they should be soft. The main task of mineral brushes is to distribute evenly the powder, so that you won’t look like wearing a mask. The makeup has to be natural, flawless and distributed evenly.

Mineral foundation brush

is the only brush that is quite different from liquid foundation brushes. Usually mineral foundation brushes are quite large, so that you have more control when applying powders and achieving an even layer of foundation. However, you also have to choose the right brush for you face. There is no special rule to say that just one type of brush is good for applying mineral makeup. There is a huge choice of brushes, so take a look and choose the brush that suits your hand and face. Some prefer short handles like kabuki brush, other are more comfortable with long handles. The brush should have dense fibers, but if you prefer a tapered brush instead of a flat one, go for it! With tapered shapes you can reach corners and spaces around the nose, under the eye,… With a flat and large brush you can blend and buff quicker and better. This is good when you don’t have much concealing. A flawless complexion is achieved just in a few circular motions.

Among most popular mineral foundation brushes are kabuki brushes. Kabuki brush derives from the Japanese culture/theatre. They have a short handle and a very large form with a lot of bristles. I also like the kabuki for applying bronzer on the body.

Lily Lolo

Other mineral foundation brushes come in a form that is flat or oval shaped on top, with a high density of fibers. This way buffing and blending become very easy.

Alima pure

Almost every brand of mineral makeup provides an entire collection of brushes for eyes, cheeks and lips that you can use also with other products, not just minerals. Their shape is the same as other cosmetic brushes. There is no difference in choosing special brushes for mineral eyeshadow, blush or concealer. The most important is to choose a good selection of brushes that will suit your needs and last long time.

On the top picture you can see different forms and brands of brushes for mineral powders. From left to right (top): Jane Iredale Kabuki brush, (bottom): Everyday minerals long handled kabuki, Everyday minerals Large Mineral Brush, Everyday minerals Tapered Sculpting Face Brush, Organic glam powder brush, (top): Alima pure blush brush and Kitten brush, (bottom left): Jane Iredale Dome brush, (bottom right): Alima pure foundation brush

There is another type of mineral foundation application; with a sponge, even though I don’t prefer it. Instead, when I finish, I tap the face with a damp brush or sponge to set the makeup and refresh the face. This way the makeup seems also more natural cause it becomes one with the skin.

That’s all about mineral makeup brushes for now. I will surely write more about other makeup brushes in the future; they are really my passion and obsession. If you have any questions about minerals or brushes, please let me know.

How to: Apply mineral makeup – part 1

dreamstimefree5

After the first, more theoretic part about mineral makeup, it’s time to explain you some of my best advices on applying mineral makeup. If you will follow these simple steps, you can’t go wrong. Don’t be afraid to start using minerals, just because the application is slightly different from conventional makeup application. Using mineral powders is really simple and with time you will realize that is also very quick and handy. Moreover, your skin will breathe and you will feel comfortable wearing mineral makeup, because of its lightweight consistency. Some women complain about a caked, unnatural and heavy look. This might happen just in case the makeup is not properly applied. My experiences with minerals are really excellent!

The proper application of mineral makeup requires:

correct skin care

follow the process of mineral makeup application

appropriate brushes for mineral makeup

choosing the right shade and formulation of mineral makeup

applying the makeup with a “light hand”; you can always add another layer

blending it well into the skin

Correct skin care

One of the biggest mistakes I notice before applying makeup is that women don’t know very well their skin condition. Many times for example younger girls tend to think that their skin is grease, when in fact it isn’t. Consequently they use wrong skin care products that dry their skin even more. They proceed with makeup that also don’t match their skin type and the result is obviously a disaster. In every case, you should first analyze your skin well (or ask a professional for help). Most often it needs just a gentle exfoliation and a hydrating boost. Before I start applying the mineral foundation, I first clean the skin and apply a light organic oil for all skin types (in general for normal skin). I leave it a few minutes until absorbed into the skin. If needed, I remove the excess of oil from skin with a blotting paper. But usually, all you need is just 2 drops of these oils and they work great, without leaving the skin with a grease shine. I especially like the Inlight organic daily face oil. After this I start applying the mineral foundation.

Mineral makeup application

You’ve heard most of time about and I will repeat it, too: Minerals are NOT like the finishing powder in conventional makeup. You can use just one product (mineral foundation) instead of many others (liquid foundation, concealer, finishing powder,…) if you want. For any other imperfections there is a wide range of mineral correctors and other finishing powders. But that’s another story.

Application of all mineral products:

1. Sprinkle a small amount of mineral powder (foundation, blush,…) into the lid of the jar

2. Swirl the appropriate brush into the powder

3. Remove the excess of powder from the brush with taping it into the lid – less is more

4. Apply it on your face with a light hand (use circular motions and a buffing brush for the foundation)

5. Blend well the product

6. Avoid a heavy application, you don’t want to look unnatural

7. I finish with a refreshing spritz of an appropriate herbal toner or water.

Here I finish the first part and look forward for your questions about the topic until the second part.

A few thoughts about mineral makeup

Mineral makeup

Mineral makeup is still unknown to many of you, so I decided to write something about it. Even though you can find a lot of commercial informations on this topic, it’s still quite unknown that its roots come from ancient Egypt. No, we haven’t invented it, we have just refreshed some of ancient knowledges. Ancient Egyptians were aware of their beauty and they had rituals and knowledge about many beauty products that we know today. They wore makeup on the eyes, they used the blush on the cheeks, they painted their nails, used body oils and much more. Do you remember the black line around the eyes that Egyptians used to wear? They made the eye kohl from galena or malachite, minerals excavated from earth. They also had a lot of precious makeup accessories, made from different materials, where they stored cosmetic oils and pigments. Archeologists have discovered eye paint palettes dating from 10.000 B.C., probably the oldest makeup discovery. More than obvious Egyptians took care of their beauty. I am always fascinated when I look at the pictures of their beauty accessories, like palettes, spoons, decorated jars and containers.

Let’s come back in the present moment and take a look on mineral makeup, as we know it today. Mineral makeup is obtained from natural ground minerals from the earth. You should know that not every mineral makeup is really good and safe. As I mentioned so many times, check the label with ingredients. The purest mineral cosmetics have just a few ingredients – usually minimum 4 or 5 : Iron oxides, Titanium dioxide, Zinc oxide, Ultramarine blue and Mica. Avoid minerals that contain chemicals like talc, parabens, fragrances, synthetic dyes, or other unsafe ingredients. Check also they are free from nano particles. Nowadays mineral makeup was rediscovered because of many people suffering from allergies, rosacea, sensibility to chemicals, pains because of surgery, after laser treatments. Often, women tell me they like mineral foundation, cause while wearing it, pimples on the face dry and disappear faster and it feels like not wearing makeup.

Benefits of using pure mineral makeup:

– lack of chemicals

– great choice especially for sensitive skin

– minerals take care of your skin while you wear them

– easy and quick application

– versatility; you can use one product for more purposes (cheeks and eyes for example)

– it’s waterproof

– titanium dioxide protects the skin from the sun; it’s a natural sunscreen

– does not clog pores and so allows the skin to breathe

– provides a good coverage

– it looks natural on your skin (learning the application technique is essential)

– suitable for all skin conditions

– they are fragrance free

You can find many brands on the market, but here are some of my favorite & pure mineral makeup brands: Alima Pure, Everyday minerals, Jane Iredale, Inika, Lily lolo and many others. If you have never tried minerals before, purchase first samples and check the color. It has to match exactly your skin tone.

As you can see, mineral makeup is available mostly in powders as foundation, concealer, eyeshadow, bronzer and blush. In my opinion, the best thing is their multi-use, cause you can apply them in different ways. I will explain more about application and use of mineral makeup in one of my next posts. Meanwhile, you can check these sites and their holiday offers and who knows, maybe you will find your best makeup product ever 🙂

If you have any questions and thoughts about minerals, I will be glad to help you.

Achieve a trendy holiday makeup with green products – part 2

Wild Rock’n’roll girl (from Roberto Cavalli F/W 2010 runway)

I’m back with the second part of holiday makeup in green version. This time the style is going to be very different from the last article, where the look was natural and flawless. This looks will suit great the “wild” ones – bohemian or rock’n’roll style girls. Both looks have the eyes accentuated.

Roberto Cavalli f/w 2010 (via Style.com)

This look is the best for brunettes or platinum blondes, perhaps with long and wild looking hair. Here it is very important to make the skin looking fresh and young – not looking heavy or too matte. Avoid this make-up if you have very dark circles or puffiness around the eyes.

– Prepare the face as good as possible. Start with a good organic skin care; clean properly the face with a cleansing milk or gel, appropriate for your skin type. Proceed with a toner or a floral mist for the face and finish with a moisturizing cream. If you have time, you can relax for a few minutes and put a hydrating mask on the face between the cleanser and the toner. You can choose between various good organic skin care brands. A few good suggestions: The organic pharmacy, Farmaesthetics, Suki, 100%pure.

– I suggest to choose a tinted moisturizer, in this case skip the cream. If you don’t  have a tinted moisturizer you can add a few drops of your liquid foundation in your cream and mix them together. You will get a nice tinted moisturizer that will add you a sheer and fresh glow. A very good  choice is the Organic Glam Sheer Tint.

– If you have any imperfections use the Organic glam concealer and tap it precisely just on the areas that need coverage.

– Choose a hydrating cream blush in rose shades to add a touch of color to the face. This will refresh the entire look, so that the eyes won’t look so heavy. Apply 100%pure lip&cheek tint on the cheekbones to sculpt the face. Choose the shimmery strawberry shade.

– If needed, dust gently with Organic glam loose powder on the T zone (chin, nose, forehead).

– Eyes are the most important step here: start with the smoky eye technique where you will need a midtone and a darker shade. Choose 100%pure eyeshadow in vanilla sugar and apply it with a large eye brush on the entire eye lid towards the eyebrow bone. Proceed with a dark brown shimmery shade on the upper and lower lash line and blend it well around the eyes. Make sure to elongate the shadow on the outer corner of the eye to achieve a cat eye look. 100%pure eyeshadow in chestnut will work great.

– Accentuate the shape of the eyes and line the eyes with an eye pencil in dark brown. I don’t suggest doing the line on small eyes, cause they will look even smaller. Use the Organic Glam Mineral Eye Pencil in dark brown.

– With a touch of gold color give the eyes a 3D effect. Use Alima pure Luminous shimmer eyeshadow in Gold dust and make a V line (upper and lower lash line) in the inner corners of the eye. If you want an intense golden line, damp your eyeliner brush in water and then in the eyeshadow to achieve a wet and more intense effect.

– Curl the lashes with an eyelash curler and apply generously a black mascara. Jane Iredale Longest Lash Thickening and Lengthening Mascara Black Ice will be a nice choice.

– You want the lips to be almost invisible, so put on just a transparent Lavera lip gloss n.1 or just a lip balm.

Perfect polished beauty from Gucci F/W 2010

Gucci F/W 2010 (via Style.com)

Let’s say that this make-up is a lighter version of the previous one in a certain way. The difference is just in the intensity of eyeshadow colors, but the technique is almost the same. This is a softer and more natural look, suitable to update your day make-up, if you have no time.

– Apply with fingers RMS un cover-up on a cleansed skin and tap it well into the skin until it disappeared. This is a great product that you can use like a 2 in 1, instead of foundation and concealer.

– If you have dark circles around the eyes, cover them with a touch of colored concealer for the under eye area. Use Jane Iredale CircleDelete Under-Eye Conceal in an appropriate shade for your skin. It will do wonders!

– If needed, lightly dust the eye lids and under eye area with Lavera Fine Loose Mineral Powder.

– For the eyes I choose an Everyday minerals blush in apple (a matte light rose) shade and apply it on the upper lash line and blend it well till the crease of the eye. If you use mineral makeup you can easily play and mix different products. In this case the blush works great instead of the eyeshadow, cause we want a nice subtle pink shade.

– Use a black kohl pencil and line the eyes on the upper and lower inside eye line. Try Lavera black eye pencil from the newest Lavera Trend sensitive line.

– Apply Lavera Intense volumising black mascara to conclude the look.

– You can sculpt the cheeks and the sides of the forehead with a very soft bronzer. Alima pure bronzer Maracaibo in a light matte bronze it’s a good choice if your skin is quite light.

– Lips look almost naked, so put on a mat lip tint. RMS lip shine in moment shade is a nice suggestion.

– Shape the eyebrows with an eyebrow comb. The eyebrow shape here is natural and full.

Hope the advices are useful and ENJOY the upcoming holiday parties!

Achieve a trendy holiday makeup with green products – part 1

As the holidays are approaching quickly, I would like to share with you some of my favorite makeup looks from this season runways. My goal is to give you some ideas and directions about colors and techniques, so doing your holiday makeup will be a lot of fun. The most important thing here is that I’m gonna show you how to achieve these looks with green products. I named this first part Sophisticated lady, because both looks are very feminine and sophisticated.

Delicate beauty from Louis Vuitton F/W 2010 runway

This look is all about achieving a perfect looking skin and sculpting the face with shades in delicate tonalities. I’d suggest this look to women with a pale skin tone and light colors.

– Clean your face with organic skin care products. If you have a little time, exfoliate skin with a gentle sugar based peeling or try The Organic Pharmacy Flower Petal Deep Cleanser and Exfoliating Mask and proceed with a hydrating organic mask. Try The Organic Pharmacy Collagen Boost Mask, it will immediately enhance and refresh your face before applying your make-up.

– I suggest a primer to even your skin tone and prepare it for the foundation. My favorite here is Vapour Stratus Soft Focus Instant Skin Perfector in 902 that is slightly pink and goes great with a light skin with pink undertones.

– Add a touch of luminosity to the face with a concealer. I really like concealers in pencil that are easy and precise to use. Apply the concealer to the under-eye area, at the outer corner of the eyes, around the nose and lips for a highlighting and lifting effect. Jane Iredale Active light concealer is the perfect choice. Pay attention to get the right shade, slightly lighter than your skin tone.

– Start applying the foundation or a tinted moisturizer, if your skin tone is perfect. You want to achieve a radiant and fresh skin. So gently tap your foundation into the skin with a foundation brush. Remember that the foundation should match exactly your skin tone and blend perfectly all the edges. Don’t forget the neck and decolletage if you wear an open dress. Vapour Atmosphere Soft Focus Foundation is a great choice for this look. Next, powder gently the face with a small amount of face powder to set the makeup. Satin Finishing PowderAlima Pure will give you a perfect finish without looking heavy.

– Sculpt the eyelids with a light shade along the lash line towards the crease. Use the Alima Pure pearluster eyeshadow Prosecco, a soft beige with a hint of pink. Then, apply a matte taupe eyeshadow, starting from the outer to the inner corner of the eye and blend well upwards, to get a sophisticated and sculpted lid. Try Everyday minerals matte eyeshadow Wild flowers. Proceed with the same color also on the lower lash line. You don’t want hard edges, so use a tapered blending brush to smudge well.

– Curl the eyelashes with an eyelash curler and apply a brown Nvey eco mascara.

– Brush the eyebrows in a nice shape and fill in gently the spaces with a light brown shade. Do this with a small angled brush; you will get a precise and soft shape. When finished, brush again the eyebrows in a perfect shape. This angled Alima pure brush n.33 will work nice.

– Choose a creamy blush in a light pink like Vapour Aura multi-use blush radiant in 208. Sculpt the cheeks along the cheekbones with a brush or use you fingers. Blend well!

– Apply a touch of luminizer on top of the cheekbones, on the bridge of the nose and on the temples. RMS Living luminizer is an excellent choice.

– Finish the look with a natural lip conditioner, just to enhance your natural lip color. The finish here is natural and just a bit glossy, to keep the soft and balanced overall look. Try the RMS lip&skin balm.

holiday makeup

The vamp from Karl Lagerfeld F/W 2010 runway

The opposite of the previous look is this 50’s inspired look, where the red lipstick is its signature. It suits well the brunettes and blondes as well, especially if the eyes are blue.

– The skin here is quite matte, but not too much, so we want a clean and perfectly looking skin as possible. After your skin care routine, start with a great foundation that covers any imperfections and even out skin tone. Try the Jane Iredale’s Pure Pressed Base SPF 20 that provides a sheer and semi-matte finish, but at the same time covers any imperfections. Its light diffusing properties make your skin look fresh and smooth. It’s also a great all in one product, especially, if you have no time to do the makeup.

– Give a three-dimensional effect with sculpting the face with a light bronzer. Use just a slightly darker shade than your foundation, cause you don’t want to achieve a sun-kissed face. I like the Everyday minerals bronzers. Choose the shade that suits your skin tone.

– Next step are the eyes. With the Pure pressed Jane Iredale eyeshadow in walnut shade contour both lash lines and smudge really well, to create a soft shadow around the eyes. Give just a touch of matte rosy color in the crease of the eye and on the brow bone and blend well. You can use the same color from the blush that you will apply on the cheeks.

– Curl your lashes and apply The organic pharmacy black mascara. Don’ forget to shape and brush the eyebrows.

– On the apple of the cheeks apply the Jane Iredale’s Pure Pressed Blush in Barely rose. Pay attention to apply the blush precisely and blend well the edges. If you don’t apply the blush exactly on both sides of the face, the face looks asymmetric.

– The last and most important touch: With a lip brush apply the Nvey eco bright red lipstick n.369 on your lips. Contour the lips precisely and smudge well, cause the red lips must be done perfectly. You can finish with a coat of clear lip gloss (with no glitter effect) like Jane Iredale Pure Gloss for Lips in shade Just gloss.

Green makeup tip: Before applying the lipstick make sure your lips are not chapped, they must be perfectly smooth. Otherwise, the red lipstick looks a disaster. Make a peeling before or brush your lips with a toothbrush to remove any dead cells.

Hope I gave you some nice ideas. What is most important experiment, research and ENJOY!

Soon it comes the second part with totally different looks!

Glowing and healthy skin with Vapour organic makeup

Just a few days ago I received my package from Vapour beauty that I was waiting so impatiently. This was my first order from them – I was searching some new makeup products with a creamy texture. Of course, I’ve previously checked the ingredients, which are not just safe, but the company is also a proud signer of Safe cosmetics. At that point, the only question for me was the result. Also the package with the products was very nice and eco friendly! First, I was a little afraid about choosing the right color, but their shade guide is excellent. I have chosen just the perfect shade for my skin tone. I have a light neutral skin tone and I was afraid that the 115 shade would be too yellow, but it wasn’t at all. The colors on the monitor vary, so take this in consideration. I was also wondering about the texture; I thought that the products will be quite oily with a heavy coverage. But I was wrong and my fears were totally unnecessary. I immediately tried the products and I was just blown away with the results. Just amazing! I can’t describe the enthusiasm, when I realized that there are companies who are already making enormous steps towards saving the environment and our health without renouncing the beauty. Since I decided to become a green make-up artist, I was used to work with products that provided great results, but with some consequences for our health. When I experienced new advanced technologies that organic makeup brands already provide, I was really surprised about their good quality.

Anyway, I decided to try first just a few products from Vapour organic beauty:

Primer: Stratus instant skin perfector

Cream foundation: Atmosphere luminous foundation

Cream blush: Aura multi use blush classic

Vapour organic beauty

Vapour beauty Stratus instant skin perfector

I love to use primers before I start with the make-up. They provide an excellent overall finish, optically minimize the pores and the skin looks younger and more even. Stratus instant skin perfector does this and much more! Take in consideration that conventional primers can provide a good result, but your skin is not breathing, nor is nourished, because they contain a lot of chemicals. The greatest thing with Stratus is that while you wear it, the skin is protected with anti-oxidants and moisturized because of organic evening primrose oil, papaya, pumpkin, frankincense, tulsi, and lotus flower. I especially like the fresh and even skin tone, with a natural luminosity, that Stratus help to achieve. The package is in a handy stick, so you can bring it everywhere. It comes in 2 shades: 902 is for skin with pink undertones and 903 is for skin with yellow undertones. All the products have a similar and pleasant smell, very natural, with no artificial perfumes added. The application is easy and is the first step in the process of applying makeup after cleaning the skin. I thought that I’ll have to use my foundation brush, but I apply it very easy, just with tapping lightly into my skin and then blending with my fingers to achieve a perfect finish. With Stratus you prepare your skin for the next step – foundation (if you will need it). The finish is perfect, lightly sheer and even, suitable for every skin type. Now, Stratus also comes in a liquid version, packed in a bottle. I haven’ tried it yet, but I’m sure it’s great too!

Vapour beauty Atmosphere luminous foundation

I can say that the coverage and overall result after applying Stratus and the foundation exceeded all my expectations. I can easily use it for professional work on a photo shooting for example. If you will need any extra coverage after Stratus, then this foundation is the answer. It’s very easy to apply, you can gently tap it into the skin, then blend with fingers. If you want you can also use a foundation brush and apply just where you need. Their color guide is excellent and don’t be afraid, their 10 shades are developed very good, also for other ethnical skin tones. This is gonna be my next investment even for my professional use. Sometimes, when I think about foundation in stick, I think automatically of heavy coverage and oily texture, but Atmosphere is another story. Less is more and the coverage is light, even, but at the same time covers any imperfections. You feel like wearing nothing on and that’s the point, isn’t it? I think it’s worth to try also the new liquid version of this foundation. And after all, all the range of Vapour products is designed for a demanding modern woman, who search high quality and quick results.

Vapour beauty Aura multi use blush

When it comes to blushes Vapour has 3 versions of Aura: classic (sheer matte finish), radiant (frost satin finish) and stain (powerful bright colors). I tried Aura in spark shade, cause on myself I like natural colors that make me look fresh and healthy. Spark is quite a universal shade in peach, that you can use on cheeks, but if you want also on lips. I’d also sculpt the eyelids with it. I think that the versatility of this products is a modern way of using the makeup. With adding more product you can go from a natural to a dramatic look. Aura is also based, like all Vapour products, on organic ingredients that nourish and protect your skin. And when you put off your makeup at the end of the day, your skin looks great and not exhausted, because of safe ingredients that protect it.
If you are in hurry, you can be ready just with a few right steps without renouncing to wear make-up. I’m not saying that you can’t do a great evening sophisticated look, but if you have no time, with this 3 products you are ready to shine like a (green) star from the latest fashion magazine’s cover 🙂

natural makeup

This is the look from Fendi fashion show F/W 2010 and it’s the exactly finish and look that I described in this post. Just to have an idea. I find it gorgeous and perfect for day or evening.

That’s all for now, but be sure that you will hear again about Vapour products from me!

If you have any experiences to share or questions about Vapour or this look, let me know, please.

My custom made mineral eyeshadow palette

makeup DIY

As a make-up artist I love working with palettes cause, they are very practical and handy. When I switched to mineral make-up eyeshadows, instead of using the normal ones, I invented a unique palette on my own. I really wanted to have an overview to all colors and quickly choose the right one. So, I took a  piece of kappa line board,  5 mm thick , usually used for large-sized photo prints. Then, I picked all my sample size mineral eyeshadows and I arranged them by colors and started to fix with glue each one of them on the board. Below every pot of eyeshadow I have written the name of the color, so that I can quickly see which color is running out and I fill the sample size pot with new pigment. Every time I have to pack my make-up case, I quickly have all my eyeshadows tidy and ready to work.

You can see the picture how it looks like.

Natural luminous autumn makeup

How to achieve freshness on your face when you don’t have time

everyday minerals

Nowadays women don’t have much time to spend in front of the mirror. In this article I want to show you a quick makeup tip for a fresh look for these autumn days and also present you an amazing collection of mineral make-up from Everyday minerals.

You will need just some basic products that you can bring with you everywhere for a retouch during the day.

1. step

Give freshness to your face with a perfect base. After cleansing your face and applying a hydrating moisturizer, you are ready to adjust your skin color with a mineral makeup base from Everyday minerals. For this look I suggest a semi-mat base; its moisturizing properties provide a silky finish and a perfect coverage for imperfections. Apply your mineral foundation with the kabuki or foundation brush. If you need to cover any imperfections use the smaller concealer brush. Don’t worry if you don’t have experience with minerals-once you try them, the application is easy and quick, providing you a perfect finish on your face. It’s easy to choose the right shade of Everyday minerals foundation with their excellent shade guide that will help you. And you can also order a try me free base to try different shades till you find the right shade that matches exactly your skin tone. Remember that the right shade for you is the one that it seems invisible on your face.

2. step

With a round blush brush take first a small amount of mineral blush and apply it on the cheekbones. With the same brush apply it also on the crease of the eyelid with a large stroke, as if you would contour the shadow between the eyelids. I have used the shade Snuggle from Everyday minerals, that is a nice peach blush with hints of opalescent pink with a satin finish. It has the perfect amount of luminosity, just enough for a healthy glow. This is a nice tip when you don’t have time for you makeup, cause in a few strokes with one brush you sculpt the face along the cheekbones and eyelids where the bones are prominent. The great thing with minerals is that you can use the same color for eyes, lips and cheeks.

3.step

Proceed with a neutral shade on the eyelid along the upper lash line. I have applied the eyeshadow Good china with the dome blending eye brush, but you can also use your fingers. Good china is a light beige with pink undertones and pearl shimmer. A neutral color that you can use to refresh not just your look, but you can also apply it on the top of the cheekbones and at the side of the eye to give freshness to the face. I think that the travel size of eyeshadow is a great idea, cause is handy and not too small; just the right size for retouch on the go and easy to use! The best thing is that you can recycle and reuse them! You can also send them the empty container and they’ll recycle it for you: ECO CHIC, don’t you agree?

4.step

Curl your lashes with an eyelash curler and apply a brown organic mascara on the lashes to open up the eyes.

5.step

Don’t forget to comb your eyebrows with a brow brush that will line and shape your brows. There are some details that you have to pay attention to, one of this is a perfect shape of your eyebrows! More on eyebrows in following articles.

6.step

The final step is your lips that should look natural and in harmony with the chosen colors of our look. We want a natural and fresh face with small contrasts. In this case we will use a colored lip balm made with organic ingredients. The shade Bohemian wonderer suits very well to our colors. It’s a peachy pearl shade made with hydrating luxurious oils from organic floral ingredients like murumuru butter, evening primrose oil and other exotic ingredients that make your lips soft. I tap the lip balm directly to the lips to achieve a fresh and natural look.

Another quick makeup tip that I really love is to spritz an organic toner or mineral water over the face and allow to melt with your makeup and fix it.

That’s it! So simple! You will look amazing and fresh throughout the day! I’m proud to suggest you a cosmetic good for your skin and for the planet, free of parabens, fragrances, and dyes like Everyday minerals.

Everyday minerals

Note I have attached a sketch of this look. Bear in mind that the colors may vary from monitor to monitor, even though I used real colors. These colors look the best on light skin with warm and neutral undertones and brown or reddish hair.

Essential makeup artist’s tools: Brushes

Review of Everyday minerals makeup brushes

As a makeup artist I’m a big fan of different brushes and its different shapes. Like a painter needs the right brush for his artwork, so does the make-up artist. For me the most important thing when it comes to brushes is their quality that allows not just a good feeling on the face, but is also essential for a precise and well done makeup.

This article has two purposes:

1. How to choose the right brush and use it.

2. To present you an amazing collection of make-up brushes from Everyday minerals.

At the beginning I bought Everyday minerals brushes just for my personal use, but then I was so amazed about their quality, that I purchased another set also for professional use. Working with my new brushes on others, I noticed nice comments from the girls: “How soft is that brush! What a nice feeling!”

Everyday minerals brushes are cruelty free and vegan, made from high quality soft synthetics fibers, with bamboo handles. I especially love their interesting shapes, that allow different uses and an easy application. They are really high quality; despite many washings the hair don’t fall out from the brush. And the price is really good, so that everyone can afford brushes of such a great quality.

The collection has 2 sections: 7 brushes for face and 7 for eyes, even though I have my own personal use for each brush. I will present my favorite ones, but you can see and purchase the entire collection at Everyday minerals.

FACE BRUSHES

LONG HANDLED KABUKI

Everyday minerals

It’s a fantastic, super soft brush with dense hair. Because of its long handle I prefer it to the short kabuki brush. It’s perfect for an even application of powders (base, blush, bronzer). You can use it on the face, but I also like it for the application of the bronzer or shimmer powder on shoulders and neck. A multitasking must-have brush!

DOME BLUSH BRUSH

Everyday minerals

This brush has a longer handle and it’s basically made for applying the blush on the cheeks, because of its full and rounded shape. For me it’s a great multi-purpose brush, ideal for dusting not just blush, but also shimmer powders. I adore it for a quick touch of blush or bronzer on the cheeks and over the entire eyelid, which makes a natural looking glow. It’s also great for blending, especially for correcting the excess of color from the cheeks and achieving a natural look with no hard edges.

FOUNDATION BRUSH

Everyday minerals

Synthetic hair and a round flat shape provide a precise application of bases and concealers, especially around the nose and eyes. I use it for applying mineral, but also liquid foundations. This brush is an essential tool for creating a truly flawless finish with professional results.

OVAL CONCEALER BRUSH

Everyday minerals

You can use this smooth synthetic brush wherever you need to correct or extra coverage. It’s perfect to use around the eye area, or for applying the eyeshadow base. The slight pointed tip of this flat brush allows you to cover perfectly any imperfections or discolorations with a small amount of mineral concealer.

EYE BRUSHES

For me the entire collection is a must-have. The shapes of brushes are so different and amazing for achieving every look!

EYE KABUKI BRUSH

Everyday minerals

I really adore this multitasking brush, a basic piece! Its shape is great for applying the eyeshadow on the entire eyelid, but I also use it for highlighting some small areas with shimmer powders. It works great also with cream products; I do touch-ups with liquid correctors under the eyes, or apply some cream blush or eyeshadow. The result is always a precise and even application.

DOME BLENDING EYE BRUSH

Everyday minerals

This brush with tapered shape is perfect for blending the eyeshadow and soften the harsh edges. When you use more than one color of eyeshadow it’s great for a precise application into the crease of the eyelid. It is so soft that you can also use it to set the powder or highlight under the eyes or any small areas.

EVERYDAY EYE SMUDGE BRUSH

Everyday minerals

The special pencil-shaped tip and soft fibers of this brush allows you to create a precise shade in the crease of the eye, smudge the eyeshadow along the lower lash line or to create a perfect soft smoky eye look.

ANGLED BROW & LINER BRUSH

Everyday minerals

I always recommend this brush to everyone who has problems with making a perfect line with the eyeliner. It’s just great for creating a precise line, even the thinnest one. It’s also the perfect brush for defining the eyebrows with small strokes.

EYE BLENDING BRUSH

Everyday minerals

This brush has also an angled shape, but has longer and softer fibers than the angled brow&liner brush. Its shape allows you to apply, contour and blend softly the eyeshadow in the crease or in the corner of the eye. It’s the prefect brush when you want a dramatic look with dark colors on the eyes.

EVERYDAY EYESHADOW BRUSH

Everyday minerals

This brush is a classic eyeshadow brush with a flat rounded tip, perfect for applying and blending different colors on the eyelids, or highlighting the brow bone. The soft synthetic fibers provide an even application of powder or cream cosmetic products. If you want you can also use it for applying the concealer on small areas.

TAKING CARE OF YOUR BRUSHES

Everyday minerals (including me) suggest to take care of your brushes following these simple steps:

Cleaning your brushes is easy! Take your gentle shampoo and add water, lather and rinse with clean water. Push the bristle in one uniform direction and lay flat on a clean towel. Clean your brushes at night, that way they will be dry and ready for use in the morning.

Everyday minerals

I really like this green bag, where you can put your makeup and brushes. Handy and stylish, made from 100% natural hemp bast plant fibres collected from the inner bark. A green fashion must-have!
